Why you should read Shiva Trilogy (The immortals of Meluha, Secret of the Naga’s, and Oath of the Vayuputra’s)?
Today I am writing about the book series on Shiva Trilogy written by Amish Tripathi. My mom got this series for herself, but I started reading because it is very intriguing. The author has written many other good books like Ram Chandra Series, Suheldev — The King who saved India, and Immortal India. His nationwide best seller The Immortals of Meluha was translated into nineteen languages and was a big hit. In this book review I will go little deeper on these titles:
1. The Immortals of MElUHA
2. The Secret of the NAGAS
3. The Oath of the VAYUPUTRAS
Book 1. The Immortals of MELUHA
Main characters in the book are Shiva, Sati, The lord of the people, Nandi, Veerbhadra, Daksha, Dilipa, Brahaspati, Kanakhala, Parvateshvar, Ayurvati.
The Meluhans believe that Shiva is their fabled saviour Neelkanth. Shiva decides to help the Meluhans in their war against the Chandravanshis, who had joined forces with a cursed Nagas; however, during his journey and the fight that ensues, Shiva learns how his choices actually reflect who he aspires to be and how they lead to dire consequences. Meluha is a near perfect empire, created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest Hindu kings that ever lived. However, the once proud empire and its rulers face severe crisis as its primary river, Saraswati, was slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating attacks from the Chandravanshis who have joined forces with the Nagas, a cursed race with physical deformities. The present Meluhan king, Daksha, sends his emissaries to North India in Tibet, to invite the local tribes to Meluha. Shiva, chief of the Guna tribe, accepts the proposal and moves to Meluha with his people. When shiva came to meluha he meets his love, Sati, daughter of Emperor Daksha.
Book 2. The Secret of the NAGAS
Main Characters in this book are Shiva, Sati, Kartik, Nandi, Veer Bhadra, Brahaspati, Daksha, Veerini, Bhagirath, Anandamayi, Parvateshvar, Ayurvati, Kali, Ganesh and Naga army.
This is second book of Shiva Trilogy. The story takes place in the imaginary land of Meluha and narrates how the inhabitants of that land are saved from their wars by a nomad named Shiva. It begins from where its predecessor, The Immortals of Meluha left off, with Shiva trying to save Sati from the invading Naga. Later Shiva takes his troop of soldiers and travels far east to the land of Branga, where he wishes to find a clue to reach the Naga people. Shiva also learns that Sati’s first child is still alive, as well as her twin sister. His journey ultimately leads him to the Naga capital of Panchavati, where he finds a surprise waiting for him and even more secrets are revealed.
Book 3. The Oath of the VAYUPUTRAS
Main Characters in this book are Shiva, Sati, Kartik, Nandi, Veer Bhadra, Brahaspati, Daksha, Veerini, Bhagirath, Anandamayi, Parvateshvar, Ayurvati, Kali, Bhrigu, Ganesh, and Parshuram.
The Oath of the Vayuputras is the third book of Shiva Trilogy. The mythical story about an imaginary land Meluha and how its inhabitants were saved by a barbarian named Shiva. Starting from where the previous installment left off, Shiva discovers what is the true evil in The Oath of the Vayuputras. Shiva then declares a holy war on those who seek to continue to use it, mainly the Emperors Daksha and Dilipa, who are being controlled by the sage Bhrigu, descendant of the Seven Rishis. The battle rages on and Shiva travels to the land of Pariha to consult with Vayuputras, a legendary tribe. By the time he returns, the war has ended with Sati, his wife, being murdered. An enraged Shiva destroys the capital of Meluha and this evil is wiped out of existence. The story concludes with Shiva and his associates being popularized as Gods for their deeds and accomplishments.
I would recommend these books to kids who can handle swear words and violence scenes but it’s good for adults too. These books are very biological and scientific as well. It involves explanation of medicines and body parts in a way anyone can understand. This Trilogy on Shiva is great even though it isn’t about the traditional Indian god, so if you know everything about Shiva and you think you know what will happen in these books, think again.
If you are interested in this Trilogy of Shiva, here is the link to the books. It’s worth $26.95.
